Book review- The girl who takes an eye for an eye

The girl with the dragon tattoo is back and how!

She has come out of shadows, only to land herself inside a high security prison and we are spared of those details that happened between "The girl in the spider's web" and this one.

Personally, I didn't enjoy reading David Lagercrantz's continuation of late Stieg Larsson's Millennium Trilogy when I read "The girl in the spider's web". It somehow fell flat and considering the enigmatic character that Salander was, that book got very less of her. However, it was Lagercrantz's first attempt and his hesitation was clear while reading the parts with Lisbeth in it. After all, it is not an easy task to continue writing about such an enigmatic character without getting any help from the previous author's notes or anything, as the legal battle is still going on.

However, in this book David Lagercrantz had redeemed himself a bit i.e he gave Salander the space her character deserved. This book starts when we see Salander in a high security prison for some extremely unconvincing reasons. However, we go deeper in her past and got to see a lot.

There are two female negative characters apart from a few others. A doctor with a bag full of syringes of strange poisons and antidotes and a dangerous lady, convicted of grave crimes and still controls the inmates in the prison Salander is placed. Needless to say Salander is a high profile prisoner there and she is under a lot of threats. There's a scientific research program that went southward many years back and how that connects Blomkvist with one of his ex lovers to Salander and to another great scoop of Millennium is a story to read.

However, with great regret I must say that the adrenaline rush is missing in this book. Even in the last 30-40 pages where a lot of actions are happening, the adrenaline doesn't even kick up there. A thriller author becomes great when he/she can take the reader through the whirlwind ride, without explaining every bit from the beginning. The thriller lovers always enjoy that excitement of guessing and unfortunately this book tells you every step that Salander is going to take.

Am I a bit disappointed of the handling of the story? Yes, I am! It's not a bad book, but it could have been a better thriller!

It is high time for David Lagercrantz to pull up his sleeves and write the next book with more care and thought.
