Book review - Imaginary Friend by Stephen Chbosky

There were times I got confused whether it is a Stephen Chbosky book or a Stephen King book! haha.

Have you ever felt annoyed that you have work and other things plus your body needs sleep, and because of all that you cannot read the book as fast as you want? Well, Imaginary Friend by Stephen Chbosky is exactly that book. It is unputdownable. I picked it up on a whim, without reading the reviews and just 5minutes ago, when I finished the book, I am emotionally exhausted! What an exhilarating ride this book was!

Christopher is a 7-years old boy who witnessed his father’s suicide, his mother getting abused and other things. A lonely but intuitive kid, Christopher, got lost in the woods for 6 days! After he was found, he was a different personality and he could remember nothing about those 6 days! Was he hearing the voices or those were just his mind playing trick? Is he unstable or there’s something strange happening with him?

Chbosky explored human-human relationship beautifully. Whether it’s the bonding between a mother and her kid or between two people who have any kind of love between them and how it can save us from the deepest darkest trauma and guilt sometimes.

It’s a story of unresolved trauma, that becomes a part of our nightmares and start pushing and question everything and everyone we have faith in... it’s a story of light and darkness and empathy and how a lil bit of love, faith and forgiveness can heal us... free us...
