"Someone could call
themselves a hero and still walk around killing dozens. Someone else could be
labelled a villain for trying to stop them. Plenty of humans were monstrous,
and plenty of monsters knew how to play at being human."
Victor and Eli, 2 introvert,
loners and ambitious college mates. Due to an assignment gone wrong, they both
ended up becoming ExtraOrdinaries, referred as EOs in the book. Vicious is one
of those books, where people are grey, just like in the real world and that is
why their vulnerabilities and emotions are relatable. It is difficult to decide
who is more compassionate or a better human being between Eli and Victor. They
both had their reasons to be who they were. While Eli had a kind of 'god
complex' or 'religious fanaticism' in him, Victor was more a go-getter and at
times what some people would call 'ruthless'. It is not really easy to tag
someone as "Hero" as "Villain" as easily the society does
at time.
The relationship between Serena
and Eli was abusive. Even though it seemed from outside that Eli was in
control, actually it was quite the opposite. They didn't love each other and
yet they couldn't kill each other.
It is a twisted tale of power,
ambition and jealousy and right in the alley of genre that I love. If you love
dark, twisted fantasy, this book deserves a read for sure.
